How Chipotle adopted viral TikTok menu hacks into its long-term strategy - AdAge.com

Image
Chipotle is proving viral TikTok trends can become part of longer-term strategies instead of just one-and-done moments.  The restaurant chain introduced three new menu items Tuesday based on TikTok users’ personalized orders for its new Chicken al Pastor product. This continues Chipotle’s work tapping the trendy #FoodReview TikTok niche and extending its relationship with TikTok food critic Keith Lee. The three new products include “The Sasha Salad,” “The Dillon Bowl,” and “The Anthony Bowl.” Lee, whose TikTok food critiques—often of menu items from restaurant chains including Chipotle—regularly receive millions of views, selected these three custom orders as part of the #ChipotleTasteTest contest. The contest invited users to share their own “menu hacks” featuring Chicken al Pastor.  This campaign comes on the heels of Chipotle embracing the viral “fajita quesadilla” menu hack— popularized by Lee and fellow creator Alexis Frost in late December—by elevating their twists on t

Uber Eats cracks down on virtual restaurants, delivery only brands - Business Insider

Image
Uber Eats is setting new rules for delivery-only restaurant brands as restaurants list the same menu multiple times under different names. Education Images/Getty Images Redeem now Uber Eats has new rules for delivery-only brands on its app, the Wall Street Journal reported. Digital brands will have to show that their offerings are different from other restaurants.  Some restaurants are listing their menu up to 20 times under different names, the Journal reported. If dinner options on Uber Eats have all started to look the same, you're not imagining it. The delivery app plans to remove roughly 5,000 brands that sell food through the platform, Wall Street Journal reported on Monday. Those restaurants represent about 13% of all virtual brands on Uber Eats, according to the Journal. The reason: The brands were the result of restaurants copying and pasting their menus in various forms as they tried to win over customers with new names or branding. In one

KFC Adding Chicken Nuggets to Its Menu - Food & Wine

Image
If you’re still writing “Chicken Sandwich Wars” on your checks, you’re going to be furious with KFC, because the Louisville-based chain may have just kicked off a Chicken Nugget War. After a short-lived test run last year, Kentucky Fried Chicken Nuggets will officially be on the menu at KFC restaurants across America starting Saturday, March 27.  The hand-breaded nuggets are 100% white meat chicken seasoned with that eternally secret combo of 11 herbs and spices. The new nuggets start at a suggested price of $3.49 and are available in 5-, 8-, 12- and 36-piece servings. They can also be ordered on their own or as part of a combo that comes with fries, a biscuit, and a medium drink. (And because KFC isn’t above firing another shot at Chick-fil-A, it adds that these nuggets “can be enjoyed nationwide seven days a week.”)  "As the original fried chicken experts, we're introducing a chicken nugget made the way only KFC can," Nick Chavez, the Chief Marketing Officer for KFC

How to Read a Menu Like a Food Critic - The New York Times

It’s harder than it seems. So Pete Wells and Tejal Rao have tips. This week marks one year of Where to Eat . What I hoped would be a digestible, funny and useful weekly guide to eating out in New York City is now a community of readers with thoughtful questions and strong opinions. How to celebrate one year? Traditionally, with the gift of paper. More specifically here: menus. Someone recently asked me, “How do you decide what to order?” And I realized that being able to parse a menu is a real skill. So I chatted with two diners extraordinaire — our restaurant critic, Pete Wells, and our critic-at-large, Tejal Rao — in hopes of helping you all eat the way the critics eat. Our regularly scheduled program will resume next week. But for now, thank you so much for reading this newsletter — and here’s to another good year of great eating. Taco Bell Is Bringing Back the Volcano Menu - Food & Wine

Image
Several years ago, a capsaicin-loving Taco Bell customer named Ashley posted a Change.org petition begging for the return of some of the chain's hottest items. "Once upon a glorious time, we had the Volcano Menu at Taco Bell. Delicious Volcano tacos , burritos, nachos , the $5 Volcano box, all served with a perfect lava sauce," she wrote. "I'm making this petition to show Taco Bell how many of us are dying to have the Volcano Menu back in our lives."  More than 1,800 people signed in agreement, and we venture to guess all of them are absolutely buzzing to hear that the Volcano Menu is returning to Taco Bell later this year. Last week, the California-based chain announced that the Volcano Burrito, Volcano Taco, and the hot-and-creamy Lava Sauce will be available beginning Thursday, June 29. (Taco Bell Rewards members can get their hands on that spicy trio on Tuesday, June 27.)  According to the always informative Taco Bell Wiki, the Volcano Burrito or

McDonald's menu items in Europe: Germany, Austria, Italy, Switzerland - Insider

To me the most disappointing item was the Big Rösti, a hash brown burger in Germany. But I'd still try it again. A hash brown burger at a McDonald's in Germany. Joey Hadden/Insider Of all the menu items, the Big Rösti I tried in Germany disappointed me most because it was the one I was most excited about.  According to McDonald's, the sandwich has a burger patty, bacon, cheese, and a hash brown in the middle. I ordered the sandwich with fries and a drink for about $10. I saw this item on menus in Germany and Austria.  I've always loved stuffing my burger with a hand full of fries, and a hash brown is sort of like an extra large, extra crispy fry. So I thought this burger sounded amazing and would turn out to be my favorite item.  But the hash brown felt overcooked to me, making the texture dry and crumbly. In my opinion, this ruined the whole burger, which was otherwise pretty good. But since it sounded so good to me initially, and because I liked the burger

Rob Gronkowski has unveiled his Masters Champions Dinner menu - Golf.com

Image
By: Dylan Dethier March 18, 2023 Rob Gronkowski attended the Valspar Championship on Friday. Getty Images It’s funny the way golf fans cherish the release of the Masters Champions Dinner menu considering it’s a meal we’re certainly not invited to. (Although Mike Weir, if you’re reading this, enjoy!) But the point isn’t the food. The point is the decision-making. One of the best parts of watching golf is seeing top pros make decisions under pressure situations in real time. There’s a far different timeline for the Champions Dinner; green jacket winners have nearly 12 months to announce their menu . How do they think about a menu? We don’t know what it’s like to win a Masters — again, except for you, Mike — but we do know what it’s like to look at a menu and salivate. So even though only a couple dozen men get invited, all of us get to have an opinion. Enter Rob Gronkowski. Gronk is not yet much of a golfer. “I probably played about one round total of golf in the past six

By: James Colgan March 15, 2023 Scottie Scheffler’s Masters Champions Dinner selections are officially set. Getty Images The menu for the most famous dinner in golf is officially set. On Wednesday afternoon, Augusta National announced the cuisine for the annual Masters Champions Dinner, revealing the picks selected by first-time champ (and world No. 1) Scottie Scheffler. The theme of the menu would appear to be Southern barbecue, with the typically understated Scheffler returning to his Texas roots with what will surely be an elevated interpretation of a classic cookout. To start, Scheffler will serve an appetizer course of cheeseburger sliders (“Served Scottie-Style”) and firecracker shrimp, followed by warm Tortilla soup garnished with avocado, crispy blue tortilla strips, sour cream, cilantro and lime. Attendees will choose between Texas ribeye or blackened redfish for their mains, which will come with a host of traditional southern sides (mac & cheese, jalapeño
