Salahuddin: Food premises offering Menu Rahmah nationwide to double in March - Malay Mail

PUTRAJAYA, Feb 27 — The number of premises offering Menu Rahmah is expected to double in March from over 700 food stalls and restaurants nationwide at present, said Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub. “We expect to see a two-fold increase in the figure, including through the participation of fast food chains,” he said. Salahuddin told reporters this after observing the implementation of the Menu Rahmah initiative at the Dengkil Rest and Service (R&R) Area (southbound) here today, with Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi also present. Menu Rahmah is a voluntary programme launched by the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) to offer meals at RM5 and below. Costco's roast beef sandwich, which was spotted at a warehouse in Lynnwood, Washington, near the company's headquarters costs $9.99. In comparison, the company's all-beef hotdog famously costs $1.50, while a Costco rotisserie chicken costs $4.99. It is unknown whether the sandwich – which includes sliced roast beef, lettuce, a mayonnaise and mustard blend, roasted cherry tomatoes and onion relish – will be rolled out to other Costco stores. Italian restaurants across Britain are having to ration tomatoes, increase prices and in some cases remove the pomodoro from their menus entirely as costs soar. The price of tomatoes has increased as much as fourfold in the past year, from £5 a case to £20 a case, according to the Federazione Italian Cuochi UK (FIC UK), a chefs’ association. KOTA KINABALU : A total of 63 eateries in Sabah have registered to participate in the Menu Rahmah programme since its launch on Jan 31, said state Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) director Georgie Abas. He said the programme has received a very good response from traders in the state, with some eateries implementing the Menu Rahmah immediately after its launch.
