15000 F&B operators sign up for Menu Rahmah programme - Free Malaysia Today
PETALING JAYA: More than 15,000 restaurants and food operators nationwide have joined the Menu Rahmah programme which offers meals at RM5 for the hardcore poor.
Domestic trade and cost of living minister Salahuddin Ayub said various meals, such as chicken rice, rojak, nasi paprik, roti john and fried kuey teow will be offered at RM5.
“We suggest (to set the price at) RM5. It’s the most reasonable price after factoring in (the prices of) raw materials.
“I know the sellers have made sacrifices over the price. I want to thank all of them (for it),” Salahuddin said at a press conference at Mydin Subang Jaya.
So far, the implementation of the programme did not involve any funds from the government, he said.
“The associations helped us. They are willing to lower their margin, but at the same time they don’t compromise on food portions,” he said.
Salahuddin said he would propose to the Cabinet to give out incentives to businesses who were part of the Menu Rahmah programme.
“To those who make this programme a success, we will help the best we can. For instance, the businesses are facing a labour shortage, the government will help them solve this so that they can provide better services.”
There are 127,000 hardcore poor in the country and Salahuddin pledged that the ministry would not leave any of them behind.
